我对中国的经济奇迹非常赞叹，但更感兴趣的是中国社会良好的人际关系。
我在中国的访问中，特别感受到了人与人之间的友爱。
各民族共同发展，中国在几千年前就做到了。
如果象中国这样，把各民族团结在一起，在欧洲就不会出现南斯拉夫这样的战争了。
作为一个政治家，我要从中国的文化宝库中学习各种有用的东西。
不断提高两国人民的生活水平，使人民生活得更加幸福，这是我与中国的政治家共同的任务。

1998年8月17日至27日，奥地利联邦议会议长阿尔弗雷德· 盖斯特尔(ALFRED GERSTL）偕夫人等一行，对中国北京、上海、浙江和贵州进行了友好访问。
中华人民共和国全国人大委员长李鹏会见了盖斯特尔议长一行。已故元帅陈毅的长子、中国人民对外友好协会常务副会长陈昊苏全程陪同议长访问。
在北京，议长参观了长城、故宫。在上海，议长参观了浦东开发区、东方明珠电视塔；他为新建的上海大戏院题词：“中国把市场经济与文化价值结合得非常完美。”在上海博物馆留言：“我将始终记住昨天，展望明天。”在贵州，他特别要求到少数民族居住的地方参观，他与苗族人手拉手，跳起了象征团结友好的圆圈舞。
访问中，盖斯特尔议长对中国经济建设中所获得的成就表示赞叹，特别对中国各民族的团结和共同发展表示钦佩。这里发表的就是他的感想。

Impression of China after the Visit
I greatly admire the
miracles of economy in China, but what is more interesting to
me is the good human relations in the society of China.
During my visit in
China, I Particularly experienced the fraternal love among the
People.
In China the joint development of all nationalities had been achieved
several thousand years ago. Had all nationalities been united
as in China, no such Yugoslavian war would have occurred in Europe.
As a statesman, I
should learn all kinds of useful things from the treasure house
of Chinese culture.
Continuously to raise
the living standards of our two Peoples and make them live happier
is the common task of mine and the Chinese statesmen's.

On August 1 7 through 27,1998, President of Austrian Federal Parliament
Alfred Gerstl accompanied by his wife and the Party paid a friendly
visit to Beijing, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Guizhou of China. During
his visit, the President Alfred Gerstl was much amazed at the
achievements made by China in the economic construction, especially
expressing admiratim for the solidarity and joint development
of the Chinese nationalities. The article published here is his
