龙，是中华民族的图腾，是古老中国的象征。“古老的东方有一条龙，他的名字就叫中国。”古往今来，中华民族的儿女都把自己生活的土地称作龙的国度，把自己称作龙的传人，梦想着自己的民族能够像龙一样地叱咤风云，腾飞世界。
梦想是浪漫、美丽的，却又是朴实的。
以龙喻志，是一种信念。几千年来，正是这种信念，造就了我们这个民族不屈不挠、百折不回的精神。

中华民族曾经创造了灿烂的古代文明。一部人类的历史，记载过她许多的辉煌。然而，就在同一部史书上，也铭刻了她许多的屈辱、痛苦和惆怅。正因为如此，今天，当人们站在一个崭新时代的开端回溯那些已经遥远了的历史的时候，心中才会有那么多的感触。我们为昔日的辉煌而自豪，也为昔日的屈辱而叹息。这些光荣和痛苦，都将作为祖先留下的宝贵遗产，在所有炎黄子孙的血液里永远保存。
世界是循环前进的。未来学家们早就说过：世界经济正在大规模地向亚洲环太平洋地区转移。他们预言：21世纪将是中国人的世纪；在这个世纪里，人类将看到一个古老民族的伟大复兴。
复兴中华民族，一个崇高的夙愿。为了实现这个宏愿，一代又一代中华儿女以鲜血和生命为代价，前赴后继，进行了艰苦卓绝的努力。他们的鲜血没有白流，在新千年到来的时候，我们终于可以这样告慰他们：在中国人真正掌握了自己命运的今天，这个宏愿必将得以实现。
新千年从龙年开始——对于海内外所有龙的传人们来说，这件事有着特别的意义。这既是预示，也是鞭策。它勉励我们，要用更坚实的信念托起明天更新更美好的太阳。

Year of Dragon
From the East to the
West, the whole world is jubilantly celebrating the coming of
year 2000.
At this great historical moment, we, as Chinese nation, which
is one quarter of the whole population of the world, are reasonably
more cheerful than anyone else-- since, very luckily, the Year
of Dragon in the Chinese lunar calendar will come accompanied
by the sound of the footsteps of the new millennium.
Dragon, totem of the
Chinese nation, has been the symbol of ancient China. "There
was a dragon in the ancient East. He was called China." Through
the ages, the descendants of the Chinese nation have addressed
their place of living as the dragon state, and themselves as descendants
of the dragon. Dreaming of their nation as a dragon shaking the
heaven and earth, commanding the wind and the clouds, and soaring
in the world.
The dream was romantic
and beautiful, but also simple.
Taking dragon as the
analogy of aspirations is a sort of conviction. For several thousand
years, it has been this conviction that created our nation's unyielding
and indomitable spirit.

The Chinese nation
once created a brilliant ancient civilization. The human history
recorded many of her glory. But, it is the same history book that
engraved lots of her humiliations, agonies and melancholy. Just
because of this, now when standing at the beginning of a completely
new era and recalling those distant histories, we have so many
thoughts and feelings. We are proud of the glory of the past and
sigh about the humiliations of the past. These splendors and agonies
will all be kept in the blood of the descendants of Chinese forever
as a precious legacy from our ancestors.
The world makes progress
in cycles. The future researchers have said long time ago: global
economy is transferring extensively to Asia Pan-Pacific area.
They predicted that the 21st century would be a Chinese century.
In this century, humanity will witness a great rejuvenation of
an ancient nation.
Rejuvenating Chinese
nation is a lofty ideal. In order to realize this wish, generation
after generation, Chinese continuously made extremely hard efforts
at the cost of their blood and lives. Their blood did not shed
for nothing. At the time of the coming new millennium, we can
finally comfort them: this great aspiration must be realized at
present when the Chinese really master their own destiny.
The new millennium
begins from Year of Dragon. This is with special meaning for all
descendants of the dragon in the whole world. This is a presage
and also an urge. It encourages us to support tomorrow's newer
and better sun with more confirmed faith.
