有读者朋友说，读本刊介绍的华人名人，往往会有意想不到的震动和启发；那些成功背后的感人至深的奋斗故事，常常会令他们掩卷长思，心绪难平。
对此，我们也有同感。作为本刊的编辑者，我们虽然也很留意那些成功者胸前的勋章与头顶的光环，但更看重的，还是留在他们身后的路——那些冲破人生的逆境，从荆棘中走过来的路；那些背负着失败的苦痛，从汗水中淌出来的路。
诚然，由于年龄、经历和所处的时代、环境的不同，名人们的道路并不尽相同。但他们之所以能获得成功，有一点是共同的，那就是他们都具有自强不息的精神。是自强不息，赋予他们的生命以永恒的动力，帮助他们战胜人性中的懦弱，勇敢面对生活的磨难，开创自己与众不同的天空。自强不息，就是指引着他们走向成功的灯塔。
"天行健，君子以自强不息"，此语出自《易经》——一部三千年前的经典著作。这就是说，中华民族对自强精神的推崇由来已久；或者说，自强不息的精神早在数千年前就植进了中华儿女的心中。中华民族饱经沧桑，然而，她源远流长的历史之河并未干涸，从“精卫填海”到“愚公移山”、从古代的四大发明到今天的科技崛起、从抵抗外族入侵到终于掌握自己的命运，她的脚步愈行愈健，愈行愈远。难怪连历史学家们都要惊叹：一个民族能够历经五千年而不衰，她的文明之光竟然能够五千年长明而不灭——假如没有一种民族精神作为支撑，这样的奇迹能够发生和存在么？
我们曾经说过，编辑出版《世界华人名人录》是为了向世界展示“龙的传人”的风采，让世人对我们这个民族多一些了解。杂志刊发以来的情况证明，我们这个初衷仍然是对的。民族是由人组成的，一个民族的精神也是通过这个民族的人来体现的。把许许多多“龙的传人”的灿烂人生编织成一幅斑斓的图画呈现于世界，世界对我们这个民族将不再陌生！
为了这个目的，我们仍然还要努力。为了这个目的，我们更希望读者朋友们与我们一起努力。

Moves Unceasingly, People Should Strive Continuously to Improve
Self
Surely, celebrities
did not take the same roads because of difference in age, experience,
times and environment. But there is a common point to explain
why they are successful. They are all with the spirit of striving
continuously to improve self. It is this spirit to endow their
lives with eternal motivation, to help them overcoming the cowardice
of human nature and to face suffering of life bravely, to open
up their own fields. Striving continuously to improve self is
really a lighthouse leading them to reach success.
"Heaven Moves
Unceasingly, People Should Strive Continuously to Improve Selves",
is a sentence of "Yi Jing"-a classical works three thousand
years ago. This means the Chinese nation has held in esteem for
the spirit of striving to improve self since early time. Or it
can be said this spirit was already rooted in the hearts of the
Chinese several thousand years ago. The Chinese nation has experienced
many vicissitudes. However, her historical river with distant
source and long stream is not dry. From "Jingwei filling
up the sea" to "Foolish Old Man removing the mountains",
from the ancient four inventions to the abruptly rising science
and technology at present time, from resisting invasion of foreign
nations to finally handling her own fate, she takes steps forward
vigorously and further. It is not strange that even historians
wonder at how: a nation can keep going for five thousand years
but not declined, and the light of her civilization can actually
keep bright without going out for five thousand years - if without
a national spirit of support, can this miracle happen and exist?
We have mentioned
before that the objective of the edition and publishing of "Who's
Who of Chinese Origin Worldwide" is to show graceful bearing
of "Descendants of the Dragon" to the world and let
people understand more about our nation. Since publishing this
magazine, the situation has proven that our original intention
is still correct. Nation consists of individuals. The spirit of
a nation is reflected by individual of this nation. Using splendid
lives of many "Descendants of the Dragon" to weave a
gorgeous picture and show to the world. The world will no longer
be unfamiliar with our nation!
For this aim, we will
make further efforts. For this aim, we rather hope our reader
friends will also make efforts together with us.
